Celebrating
A Stable Home with The Sumner County
Symphony
Sumner
County
has a need this Christmas season, one that
will not
be
delivered by Santa Claus, but still involves
the children. There are
far too
many children in care of the Department
of Children's Services
without
homes. There is an ongoing and ever
growing demand for foster
families in
the county.
The
Sumner
County
Symphony in cooperation with the Department
of
Children's
Services is presenting a concert for the
season, a free
event for
whosoever will to come, covering two
important missions:
1. to share
the need for Foster Parents in
Sumner
County
2. To
perform this annual Christmas concert laced
with joy and speckled
with good
cheer for the citizenry.
The concert
will be Friday night; December 9th, 2005
at 8:00 PM at
Wemyss
Auditorium, on the campus of
Volunteer
State
Community College
,
1480
Nashville Pike, and
Gallatin

Juanita
Jackson, Foster Parent Recruiter of the
Department of
Children's
Services says "The need is especially
great for sibling
groups and
teenagers to have homes. A baby is
fairly easy to place in a
caring
home, but those that are over 10 years old
create a greater
obstacle to
place with caring providers. The
department of Children's
Services
needs resource parents to cover that
need."
Becoming a
foster parent is certainly easier than most
people
may
believe. Potential resource parents are
enrolled in a 10-session
class,
meeting once a week, to receive
certification. After the classes
are
complete, a resource parent can expect
children placed in their home
to remain a
night or two or until permanency is
achieved. Classes begin
January
12th, 2006. Prospective parents can
sign up at the concert to
get
started. The state pays a stipend to the
parents for the child's
expenses.
Some of these children then become available
for adoption and
the foster
parent is granted first option to adopt the
child. The
children
are bright, joyful, and smart, only lacking
a home in which to
flourish
with caring individuals sharing that special
place in their
hearts.
The children's services also offer a hotline to report instances of
child abuse or neglect. Call
1-877-237-0004 anytime day or night to leave
a message and a representative will
follow-up.
Come share with the symphony at their annual Christmas Concert -
free
admission. Warm your heart to the sounds of
the orchestra and
illuminate
your mind to the needs of the children in
the county.

2004 -Symphony
Presents Memo
On Friday night, December
10th, 2004, 8:00 P.M. at Wemyss
Auditorium on the campus of Volunteer State
University, the Sumner County Symphony will
present its second annual seasonal concert,
Christmas is for the children…all the children,
in cooperation with the Department of
Children’s Services, State of Tennessee, an
evening of holiday music and yuletide tributes.
This year’s concert will
feature an original dramatic work called The
Christmas Memo, written by in-house composer
and author, Jonathan Richard Cring. The piece,
often humorous, is a look into the boardroom of
a company planning a Christmas party and the
apathy, struggle and ultimate personal discovery
that unfolds.
“Most of the night is
about the music—the great music of Christmas.
But we’ve cradled those tunes in a delightful
format of some drama, which will only add to the
viewers enjoyment,” cites author Cring from his
home in Hendersonville. “Oh—and watch out for
the Hitchcockian ending.”
Each year the symphony
uses its December concert to share the music of
Christmas and also to bring attention to the
need for foster parents in Sumner County.
Admission is free for
this event and more information can be obtained
by calling (615) 826-3871.
